Jackie Robinson

Jackie was a very large figure and an inspiration to many African American athletes, but I'm not sure if that makes him the biggest figure in the civil rights movement. But Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier, by playing on an interracial team. He made himself stand out by his natural talent at baseball, which he excelled expectations. He went through a lot by playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers, he was harassed great amounts, especially when he started traveling with the team. He was harassed because his skin color was not yet acceptable in society. He made people think about equality, because he proved to everyone  the African Americans can do the same things whites can do, such as sports. Jackie didn't focus on the harassment, but instead had pride for his skin color, which made him be respected by others. So Jackie Robinson can be viewed as a respected, important figure in the civil rights movement
